2027 ICAW Poster & Bookmark Contests NOW OPEN!

We are excited to announce the opening of the annual poster and bookmark contests for International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW). The 2027 theme is All Paths Lead to Compost. Selected in collaboration with the International Compost Alliance (ICA), this theme ties directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development GoalIndustry, Innovation and Infrastructure. It recognizes the essential role that innovation and investment play in creating a thriving circular bio-economy at both the local and global levels.

As countries work to reduce waste, conserve natural resources and tackle climate change, composting is a proven technology that transforms organic waste into valuable products to improve soil health, recycle nutrients, and reduce reliance on fossil fuel-intensive fertilizers. Collective involvement combined with the power of continued innovation, infrastructure, and investment will help unlock even greater environmental, economic, and social benefits.

As always, ICAW kicks off with the launch of our annual contests:

  • Poster Contest: Open to all ages 14 through adult. The winning design will be distributed and displayed nationally to promote the ICAW 2027 campaign.
  • Bookmark Contest: Open to youth ages 10 – 13. The winning bookmark will be printed and shared as part of ICAW celebrations.

Please note: AI-generated designs will not be accepted.

Contests are open now! Deadline for submissions: October 22, 2026, 12 midnight EST. Visit our website for contest entry forms and guidelines.

We encourage you to share this announcement with your networks, schools, art programs, and community groups. Thanks to your support spreading the word, engaging your communities, and participating in local events, ICAW grows each year.

We look forward to celebrating another successful ICAW with you in 2027 as we explore the many paths leading to compost!
