Knox College Celebrates International Compost Awareness Week!

ICAW Event Description: We invite any member of the Knox community to join us in volunteering at the Knox Farm to celebrate International Compost Awareness Week! Our Compost Crew will teach volunteers how we make compost at the Farm, how to screen compost, and train anyone who wants to be a part of our Community Scale Compost Program! Hope to see you there!

The Urban Canopy Facility Operations Tour & Finished Compost Giveaway

ICAW Event Description: Join the Urban Canopy's founder, Alex Poltorak, on an engaging tour of the Urban Canopy warehouse in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, where you will see the local food cycle in action.

Alex will provide a guided tour of Canopy's compost hauling operation and CSA (community supported agriculture) program. At the conclusion of the tour, each attendee will receive 1 free five gallon of finished compost to take home!

The tour begins at 3pm

Food Scrap Fest

ICAW Event Description: Compost Crew and One Acre Farm are hosting our annual "Food Scrap Fest" for subscribers, CSA members, and the general public. This event is an opportunity to learn more about on-farm composting, the benefits of composting and best practices, and getting involved in One Acre Farm's CSA program! The event will be held on May 4th, 2025 at One Acre Farm (18608 Wasche Rd, Dickerson, MD) from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.

LIVING SOILS RISING

ICAW Event Description: On Sunday, May 4, 2025, join hundreds of artists, activists, neighbors, urban ecologists, soil dorks, dancers, healers and dreamers for LIVING SOILS RISING, three creative acts to seed-the-future for climate justice and healing at Under the 'K' Bridge Park.

Join a theatrical walking tour, water & soils ceremony, and a seeding-the-future activation.

Hundreds of us will gather where Indigenous land was taken for the birth of the fossil fuel industry from 1867 until today. We will witness, remember, and honor the harmed land and envision a livable energy future together.

Costume: Dress as your favorite fungi, plant or animal local to Northern Brooklyn.

OKC Celebrates ICAW 2025!

Description: May 2 Kickoff: Worm Parade

Monday: OKRA Lunch and Learn featuring a presentation and virtual tour of Fertile Ground Cooperative's composting facility with an in-person lunch and Zoom meeting. We will showcase community composting efforts with CommonWealth Urban Farms, OCASA Board Member Amanda Scofield, and Compost Fairyy's Crystal Walker.

Tuesday: Fertile Ground in person tour

Wednesday: Sustainable Placemaking panel with Lauren from OKC Beautiful, Oklahoma Permaculture Institute, and more speakers. Topics include Adopt a Park, school gardens, permaculture

Thursday: Scissortail Park Flower Garden and Compost Tour

Friday: Tour of the Sustainability Center at the University of Central Oklahoma and compost program with Broncho Bites (food recovery), community garden and food scrap composting

Saturday: Compost Festival at Scissortail Park 9am-1pm, featuring yoga, a vermicomposting workshop, panel talks, and vendors

Virginia

Prince William Compost Awareness Day

ICAW Event Description: The Prince William County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with Convertus, will host its Compost Awareness Day event on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Compost Facility, 13000 Hansen Farm Road, Manassas. Volunteers from the VA Cooperative Extension Prince William Master Gardeners will be present to share information and answer questions on composting and gardening. Keep Prince William Beautiful volunteers will be there to share community beautification volunteer opportunities.

Monster Organics staff will also be there to talk about composting and their food waste collection operation. Event attendees can drop off food scraps. Convertus, the company that operates composting manufacturing for Prince William County, will provide free compost samples (bring a bucket) and offer facility tours at 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon.

Youth Composting Education and Programming Virtual Information Session

ICAW Event Description: The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority is hosting a free virtual Information Session with Guest Speaker, Lauren Click, Executive Director of Let's Go Compost. Lauren will be presenting during International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2025 to share how WV K-12 schools, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H or other youth groups can utilize Let’s Go Compost’s Free Classroom Composting Program to reduce food waste and more! All WV residents are welcome to attend! Although Monongalia County SWA is hosting this event, we want to share this information with the many WV SWAs, WV DEP Youth Environmental Program (YEP) Coordinators and other WV youth group leaders and educators, to help get the word out about Youth Composting Education Resources provided by Let's Go Compost and highlight the need to reduce food waste and compost.
